For Patients
For an initial consultation, you should only expect to pay around $80.00*. We claim through Medicare on your behalf, if you have a Medicare card. You will receive a rebate of $60.00* generally between 24-48 hours* directly into your bank account, leaving you only $20.00 out of pocket.
For a subsequent consultation, you should only expect to pay around $40.50*. We claim through Medicare on your behalf, if you have a Medicare card. You will receive a rebate of around $30.05* usually 24-48 hours* after the claim has been lodged, leaving you only $10.45 out of pocket.
For further information on payment and billing, please contact our practices.
* This is a rough estimate and current as of December 2022. We only offer Bulk Billing to those under the age of 18 years of age at our Toowoomba and Oakey practices. At Millmerran we receive funding from the Visiting Optometrists Scheme, which covers the out of pocket expenses and therefore all patients are bulk billed in Millmerran.
While we are a preferred provider of CBHS, we accept all Australian health funds at Gareth Edwards Optometrist with direct claiming through Hicaps. We offer low gap and free second pair options.
Please contact our practices directly if you have a query regarding a particular health fund.
We offer special packages for pensioners and health care card holders. We carry an extensive range of budget frames, in both metal and plastic, which we use for our packages. Prices start at $180 for a complete pair of single vision stock lens spectacles. There are options including bifocal and progressive lenses as well as Transitions®. All of our package deals come with our 12-month warranty.
Contact our practices to learn more about our available packages.
All of our products come with a 12-month warranty. This warranty applies only to defects and not general wear-and-tear.
We also offer a 3-month non-adaptation warranty on multifocal lenses - so if you’re not adjusting to your new prescription, you can swap back to a simpler lens.
Sometimes we use eye drops with a local anaesthetic to make eye exams easier. You will feel numbness in your eyes, however, you should be fine to drive afterwards.
For some patients, such as Diabetics, we may do a dilated exam. This means you will require another person to drive you home. This will be communicated to you prior to your appointment.
